Once the models are prepared, mount them on a virtual articulator in D3 Splint. Adjust the articulator pin to create room for the splint (usually 2mm thick is a good default) to simulate the patient’s bite and jaw movements. This step ensures that the night guard fits correctly and provides the necessary occlusal contact for comfort and effectiveness.

Utilize D3 Splint’s tools to outline the perimeter of the night guard, defining the areas it will cover. Choose from design options like a flat plane or anterior ramp and adjust the thickness to meet the patient’s needs. Refine the design by smoothing out rough edges and sculpting thin areas.

To facilitate printing, your 3d printing software can add supports, but D3 splint also has options to add small raft platforms or supports that connect to the anterior the guard only. This supports proper positioning during the 3D printing process. Include a label for easy identification, such as the patient’s initials or a practice-specific code.

Export the final design as an STL file from D3 Splint and import it into a 3D printing software and print!

After printing, remove the night guard from the printer and break off the base or raft. Polish the night guard using a polishing paste to ensure it is smooth, comfortable, and ready for patient use.
