CE Courses Offered by the NAU Dental Hygiene Department

Lasers in Dental Hygiene

Practice at the top of your scope! This 8 CEU hybrid course will prepare and certify the dental hygienist to use laser technology in daily patient care. Participants will complete 4 hours of online coursework followed by a 4-hour hands-on session at the NAU Dental Hygiene Clinic. By the end of the course, you will have the foundational knowledge and experience to safely use lasers for a variety of procedures. Enhance your career, become more marketable, and increase your knowledge!

Local Anesthesia

Meet Arizona’s requirements for Local Anesthesia Licensure with this comprehensive hybrid course. Designed to meet the State of Arizona’s Administrative Code, this course prepares and certifies dental hygienists for the local anesthesia board exam.

Online Component: Includes quizzes and exams, available year-round.
Hands-On Component: Administer injections with a patient at the NAU Dental Hygiene Clinic in Flagstaff, Arizona. Hands-on sessions are available May 15th – August 15th annually. Both components must be completed to receive certification.

Atraumatic and Interim Restorative Therapy

Atraumatic Restorative Technique (ART): Treat patients without local anesthesia by performing minimally invasive removal of caries and placing restorations as interim solutions that will require definitive treatment in the future.

Course Format: Includes both online coursework and an in-person hands-on lab.
Hands-On Component: Offered year-round at the Flagstaff NAU campus. Contact Dr. Callahan to schedule your in-person lab.
