Course Overview

Treatment Planning With Confidence is the first course in the Spear Education Core Curriculum. This in-person, three-day hands-on workshop is designed for dental professionals ready to go beyond single-tooth dentistry and start developing comprehensive, interdisciplinary treatment plans using the Facially Generated Treatment Planning (FGTP) protocol.

The course equips dentists to confidently identify issues, visualize ideal outcomes, and systematically plan and present treatment for patients with varying levels of complexity. With a heavy emphasis on real-world exercises, this workshop enhances both clinical knowledge and case acceptance strategies.

• How to use Facially Generated Treatment Planning to develop treatment plans for any patient, regardless of case complexity
• How to filter new and existing patients to identify who will benefit from comprehensive exams
• How to integrate airway considerations into esthetic, functional, and structural planning
• How to take and use clinical and photographic data for effective planning and patient education
• How to create impactful case presentations to improve patient engagement and treatment acceptance
• The eight treatment options available to correct any dental condition
• How to separate treatment planning from treatment sequencing
• Implementation processes to apply the FGTP model within your practice

Topics and Hands-On Exercises

• The Spear Model: Defining your current practice and future goals
• Clinical exam techniques: Joints, muscles, teeth, airway, and esthetics
• Photography and its diagnostic use for planning and patient education
• Esthetic concerns for patients with missing or soon-to-be missing teeth
• Creating visualized digital treatment plans using templates and software
• Hands-on case planning using real-world examples with immediate feedback
• How to engage patients in the planning process with guided “tours of their mouth”

Course Schedule

3-Day In-Person Workshop (Scottsdale, AZ)

• Day 1 & 2: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with catered lunch and morning check-in
• Day 3: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with final application of workshop materials

Each day includes lecture, hands-on exercises, and treatment planning labs in a small-group setting.

• A laptop or tablet (to access digital manuals and materials)
• Loupes for hands-on exercises (optional but recommended)
• Lab coat for clinical exercises and photography (optional)

Dr. Greggory Kinzer, D.D.S., M.S.D.
A leading expert in esthetic and restorative dentistry, Dr. Kinzer brings decades of experience in complex case planning and interdisciplinary care.

Dr. Jeff Rouse, D.D.S.
Known for his work in airway prosthodontics, Dr. Rouse provides crucial insights into integrating sleep dentistry and airway considerations into restorative treatment planning.
