Dental CE Requirements for Oregon Dental Professionals

Dentists

Total hours required: 40 hours every two years

Mandatory Hours

  • 2 hours of opioid and scheduled drug prescribing classes
  • Live, in-person cardiopulmonary resuscitation class approved by the Board
  • Ethics class approved by the Board
  • 2 hours of continuing education related to cultural competency
  • 1 hour pain management course specific to Oregon provided by the Pain Management Commission

Elective Hours

Elective hours: Remaining hours, with a maximum of 20 hours to be completed with an online Dental CE course.

Dental Hygienists

Total hours required: 24 hours every two years

Mandatory Hours

  • Live, in-person cardiopulmonary resuscitation class approved by the Board
  • Ethics class approved by the Board
  • 2 hours of continuing education related to cultural competency

Elective Hours

Elective hours: Remaining hours, with a maximum of 10 hours to be completed online

Dental Assistants

Total hours required: 2 hours every two years

Mandatory Hours

  • 2 hours of infection control

Elective Hours

Elective hours: Not applicable as only the mandatory hours are required

Dental Therapy

Total hours required: 36 hours every two years

Mandatory Hours

  • Live, in-person cardiopulmonary resuscitation class approved by the Board
  • 1 hour of continuing education related to pain management
  • 2 hours of continuing education related to cultural competency

Expanded Practice Dental Hygiene

Total hours required: 36 hours every two years

Mandatory Hours

  • Live, in-person cardiopulmonary resuscitation class approved by the Board

Nitrous Oxide Permit Holders

Total hours required: 4 hours every two years

Specific Topics

  • Sedation, nitrous oxide, physical evaluation, medical emergencies, monitoring and use of monitoring equipment, pharmacology of drugs used in sedation

Minimal Sedation Permit Holders

Total hours required: 4 hours every two years

Specific Topics

  • Sedation, physical evaluation, medical emergencies, monitoring and use of monitoring equipment, pharmacology of drugs used in sedation

Moderate Sedation Permit Holders

Total hours required: 14 hours every two years

Specific Topics

General Anesthesia Permit Holders

Total hours required: 14 hours every two years
