Dental CE Requirements for South Dakota Dental Professionals

Dentists

Total hours required: 100 hours every five years

Mandatory Hours

• 50 hours must be academic
• Current CPR card required, with Healthcare Provider BLS or higher
• 25 additional hours in anesthesia-related topics for those with anesthesia and sedation permits

Elective Hours

Elective hours: Remaining hours up to a 30-hour maximum for home study courses

Dental Hygienists

Total hours required: 75 hours every five years

Mandatory Hours

• At least 5 hours in dental radiography
• Current CPR card required, with Healthcare Provider BLS or higher

Elective Hours

Elective hours: Remaining hours up to a 30-hour maximum for home study courses

Registered Dental Assistants (Expanded Functions)

Total hours required: 60 hours every five years

Mandatory Hours

• At least 5 hours in dental radiography
• Current CPR card required, with Healthcare Provider BLS or higher

Elective Hours

Elective hours: Remaining hours up to a 30-hour maximum for home study courses

Dental Radiographers

Total hours required: 5 hours of continuing education in dental radiography every five years
