Dental CE Requirements for Tennessee Dental Professionals
Dentists
Total hours required: 40 hours every two years
Mandatory Hours
- 2 hours in prescribing controlled substances education, including TN Chronic Pain Guidelines
- 4 hours in sedation and/or anesthesia for permit holders
- Current CPR card (Healthcare Provider level)
- Current ACLS or PALS for those with sedation/anesthesia permits
Elective Hours
Elective hours: Remaining hours, considering 50% limitation for online/web-based courses for dental hygienists
Dental Hygienists
Total hours required: 30 hours every two years
Mandatory Hours
- 2 hours in chemical dependency education
- Current CPR card (Healthcare Provider level)
Elective Hours
Elective hours: Remaining hours, with no more than 50% via online or web-based courses
Registered Dental Assistants
Total hours required: 24 hours every two years
Mandatory Hours
- 2 hours in chemical dependency education
- Current CPR card (Healthcare Provider level)
Elective Hours
Elective hours: Remaining hours after mandatory requirements
Additional Continuing Education Details
- Live interactive webinars are considered as in-person CE as of July 1, 2022
- Random audits are conducted to verify CPR certification and CE hours
