Verifiable CPD for Dental Technicians

GDC CPD Requirements

Over a five-year cycle, dental technicians are required to complete 50 hours of Continuing Professional Development (CPD), which includes a minimum of 50 hours of verifiable CPD. Not meeting the minimum CPD requirements can affect your ability to remain on the General Dental Council (GDC) register and practice as a dental technician.

Core CPD Topics

The following core topics are highly recommended and should be covered within the five-year CPD cycle:

  • Medical Emergencies – 10 hours per 5-year cycle (2 hours annually).
  • Materials and Equipment – 5 hours per cycle.
  • Disinfection & Decontamination – 5 hours per cycle.

In addition to the core topics, the GDC recommends including the following subjects in the CPD cycle:

  • Legal and ethical issues.
  • Complaints handling.
  • Oral Cancer: Early detection.
  • Safeguarding children and young people.
  • Safeguarding vulnerable adults.
