Dental CE Requirements for Wyoming Dental Professionals
Overview
Wyoming dental professionals are required to complete continuing education (CE) every two years to maintain licensure, aligning with the new rules effective from December 9, 2019.
CE Periods
- January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2021
- January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2023
- January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2025
- January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027
CE Hours Required
Total hours required: 16 hours every two years
For dentists, 3 of these 16 hours must be related to the responsible prescribing of controlled substances. Excess hours cannot be carried over to the next CE period.
CE Content and Method
Acceptable CE Topics Include:
- Clinical topics such as oral surgery, operative dentistry, orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, etc.
- Management of medical emergencies, professional ethics, and pharmacology.
CE can be completed in person or online with no limit on online hours. Practice building and business management courses are not accepted.
Additional Requirements
Basic Life Support (BLS) training is required but does not count towards the 16-hour CE requirement.
CE Requirements for New Licensees
Newly licensed hygienists and dentists in an even year, such as 2022, only need to submit 8 hours for the following odd year, with specifics for dentists on controlled substances education.

- License renewals have shifted from annual to biennial with practice act changes effective in 2021.
- The Wyoming Board of Dentistry conducts random audits to ensure compliance with CE requirements.
